Your passkey is the key to your wallet and your funds. If you lose this key there is no way to recover it, so it is especially important to keep it safe. In this article we will review some tips on how to keep your passkey safe.
1. The first thing you’ll need to do is create a paper wallet (see How to Create a Paper Wallet), the Paper Wallet provides a back up set of keys that you can use to restore your account in the event of a lost passkey.
2. Keep your passkey in an offline location. It is best to keep a record of your passkey on an offline storage device such as an encrypted USB drive. USB drives are inexpensive and there are many free applications online that will add encryption to your USB Drive. Once you have the passkey on the USB drive keep it in a safe place where you can access it when you need it.
3. Write the passkey down on paper, this is a great traditional way of storing your passkey in an offline location. You can then store this piece of paper in your files and make a copy of it and give it to a trusted party for safe keeping.
